Pillar Procedure Surgery

Pillar procedure in North Sioux City
The Pillar Procedure is a minimally invasive surgery intended to treat patients with snoring and/or mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.

The procedure was initially approved for the insertion of three “pillars” into the soft palate. It addresses one of the most common causes of snoring and sleep apnea — vibration or collapse of the soft palate (the soft part of the roof of the mouth).

The procedure is usually performed in a doctor’s office under local anesthesia.

How It Works

After numbing the soft palate of the mouth, a small polyester rod is placed in the soft palate. This stiffens the soft palate and reduces the relaxation and vibration of the tissue that causes snoring and sleep apnea.

Pillar can be performed in 20 minutes. It may take between a few weeks to three months to see an improvement in snoring or sleep apnea.
