Technology is constantly advancing and changing, and hearing aids are no exception. Rechargeable batteries, Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth® are just a few new additions to select hearing aid models.
Bluetooth allows different wireless devices to connect with each other at a short range. A common example of this would be wireless headphones connecting to your phone.
Learn how to use your Bluetooth hearing aids to connect you with other technology.
Connecting With Your Phone or Computer
Connecting with your computer or phone via Bluetooth can be a great way to stream audio directly into your hearing aids. If you’re watching a video while enjoying a cup of coffee at Café Brulé, you can stream the content directly into your ear with Bluetooth hearing aid technology.
Take the following steps to connect your computer or phone with your hearing aids:
- Set both devices to pair. Go into the settings on your device and click Bluetooth. Turn on Bluetooth. Next, restart your hearing aids to enable Bluetooth and place them near your phone or computer to connect.
- Select your hearing aids. Your hearing aids should be an option for Bluetooth devices on your phone or computer. When they appear, click your hearing aids in the Bluetooth devices and select “pair” or “connect.”
These steps should be the same for most smartphones and computers. If you would like to pair your hearing aids with a tablet, the instructions should be the same.
Connecting With Your Smartwatch
While most computers, tablets and phones will easily connect with Bluetooth hearing aids, smartwatches will vary more heavily. Certain smartwatch brands will pair easily with hearing aids, but others don’t have the option. It is always best to double-check your smartwatch compatibility before purchasing.
If your smartwatch can be paired with hearing aids, it will likely follow the same steps as pairing with your other devices.
Connecting With Your Smart TV
Similar to smartwatches, smart TVs do not always offer Bluetooth connection. If you’re considering buying a smart TV, remember to check the Bluetooth options before doing so.
Connecting your hearing aids with your smart TV may not feel as intuitive as with your computer, but it still follows similar steps:
- Restart hearing aids to trigger Bluetooth.
- Find Bluetooth in TV settings.
- Select hearing aids to connect.
Approximately 15% of American adults report some trouble hearing. Knowing how to take advantage of the many benefits that hearing aids offer can help you fully enjoy your devices.
